So I can try to make my blog as accessible to everyone as possible, here are a list of glossary terms:
hypothesis - A tentative explanation for an observation - it can even be an educated guess
Avogadro's Law - This means that we can compare the number of molecules in different gases, just by comparing their volumes.
corpuscles - The Scientists Joseph John (JJ) Thomson used it as a term for negative charges, well before the electron became accepted. By measuring their speed and specific charge, he deduced these corpuscles must be nearly 2000 times smaller in mass than hydrogen ion - then the lightest known atomic particle.
Gene - a sequence of bases (ATGC) on a DNA molecule which codes for a protein (polypeptide), this results in a characteristic, ie the gene for eye colour.
Allele- One or more alternative versions of the same gene. You inherit one from your Mum and one from your Dad. These are represented with upper case and lower case letters.
Phenotype - The technical term for what's actually expressed by your DNA, it's always written in words, for example if you have blue eyes your phenotype for eye color would simply be 'blue eyes'
Genotype - Your genetic makeup, this might not necessarily be expressed, e.g Bb
Arctic- The South Pole
Antarctica- The North Pole
(PLEASE NOTE: I'm continuously adding to this list, so check back for updates)
